The Swan City Titans are the newest club to join Gridiron West in Perth, they are based in the Swan Valley area of Outer Eastern Perth. Back in May the Gridiron West board unanimously voted to accept the 8th team into the competition which would become the Swan City Titans.

The Titans are the brainchild of Layke Rossiello who was instrumental in turning the Geelong Buccaneers into a contender in Victoria. Rossiello will now look to turn the Titans into a powerhouse in Western Australia.

The all-new Schutt F7 football helmet is here

New Football Helmet the Schutt F7 Football Helmet

Schutt have released a new football helmet with the all-new Schutt F7 football helmet has taken a giant leap forward in helmet performance, featuring Tektonic Plate Technology, a Helmet Stabilization System and a host of other advancements.

While still featuring the most advanced impact absorption system on the field, TPU Cushioning, the F7 takes helmet performance to an entirely new level.

• Most significant – and visible – on the F7 are the Tektonic Plates covering the crown and back of the helmet shell.
These plates add additional layers of impact absorption and improve performance against rotational forces. The Tektonic Plates move independently of the helmet shell and feature an additional layer of TPU Cushioning. In addition, a new interior lining, called the Radian Diffusion System (RDS) Liner has been added under the helmet’s air liner – also improving the helmet’s performance against rotational forces.

• Another very visible piece of the F7 is the Helmet Stabilization System.
Introduced on the Vengeance Z10 and AiR XP Pro Q10 helmets in 2016, the HSS enhances performance through a better fit. The enlarged jaw pad increases contact area and produces a secured, locked-in feel.

• The F7 also features TPU Cushioning, football’s most advanced impact absorption system. 
TPU Cushioning is proven to absorb more impact across a wider variety of temperatures than any other helmet on the field. In the F7, TPU has also been incorporated into the Tektonic Plates, as well as the newly re-designed front pad. In total, there are six layers of performance and impact absorption in the F7.

The design of this new Football Helmet the F7 helmet shell incorporates an engineering principle called “Flexural Resistance.” The back shelf of the helmet, as well as the Temporal Side Wings improve the overall strength and durability of the helmet shell in critical locations.

An all-new faceguard attachment system is utilized on the F7, featuring Quarter Turn Releases and Twist Off Nose Bumper. You can attach or take off a faceguard in seconds with two small turns of a screwdriver.

In addition, the F7 has its own unique line of specially designed faceguards. All made from titanium, the most advanced faceguard material in the world – up to 60% lighter than traditional faceguards.

How does the Virginia Tech STAR Football Ratings work?

We get asked all the time…

Which helmet is the safest?

This is a difficult question to answer.

Since 2011, Virginia Tech researchers have been providing unbiased helmet ratings that allow consumers to make informed decisions when purchasing helmets.  The helmet ratings are the culmination of over 10 years of research on head impacts in sports and identify which helmets best reduce concussion risk.  This work is done as part of Virginia Tech’s service mission and is 100% independent of any funding or influence from helmet manufacturers.

A total of 26 adult football helmet models that have been evaluated using the STAR evaluation system are included in the Virginia Tech Helmet Ratings™. Helmets with more stars provide a reduction in concussion risk compared to helmets with less stars. Group rankings are differentiated by pre-determined thresholds.

What do the helmet ratings mean?

Simply stated, the helmet ratings identify which helmets best reduce concussion risk.  More stars equate to better protection, with 5 stars representing the best available helmets.  We encourage athletes to get out of lowly rated helmets and into 4 and 5 star helmets.

Note.

Will 5 star helmets prevent me from sustaining concussions?

No helmet is concussion-proof.  Any athlete can sustain a head injury, even with the very best head protection.  The helmet ratings identify the helmets that best reduce your chances of sustaining a concussion.  With that stated, helmets are only one piece of the equation to minimizing concussion risk.

Rule changes and coaching proper technique can result in fewer high-risk head impacts and are perhaps most important.  Having the best available head protection for the remaining head impacts further reduces risk.

New F7 design is latest round in helmet arms race

Earlier this year Schutt made an announcement about what would be the next helmet to be released. At the AFCA convention, Schutt showed off the F7 the latest helmet in the arms race with Riddell.

Although not much information was available on release, we do know how aesthetically impressive this helmet looks. All new Tectonic Technology consists of three plates on the shell, that absorb a substantial amount of impact. This type technology dedicated to specific impact zones on the helmet seem to be the cutting edge of helmet safety.

The F7 looks to have the same jaw pads featured on the Z10 and Q10 helmets, the F7 also features the “raised brow” facemaks style similar to the other Vengeance facemasks we have seen in the past. However, the F7 has a totally remodeled method of attaching and removing the fascemask, know as the “Rapid Release System,” comprised of the twist release retainer, and new EZ Clips on the sides of the helmet.

The F7 looks like a real jump in helmet technology and at US Sports Gear we will make it available to our customers are soon as we can.
